Not sure what's wrong? Here are the most common gas and electric cooktop faults we're called out for across Sydney, and how we fix them.
Usually a worn ignition module, a burner cap that isn't seated properly, or moisture that has gotten into the spark electrode after cleaning. We test the igniter, clean or realign the electrode and burner cap, and replace the ignition module if it has failed.
You can hear or see a spark, but no gas is reaching the burner — often a blocked jet, a faulty gas valve, or a solenoid issue. We check gas flow through the injector, clear any blockage, and test the valve and solenoid, replacing whichever component is restricting supply.
Continuous ticking after the flame has caught is typically a stuck spark switch or residual moisture in the ignition circuit. We isolate the ignition switch, dry and clean contacts, and replace the switch or module if it's failed permanently.
A tripping circuit almost always points to a short in the wiring, a failed heating element, or moisture inside the control housing. We isolate the circuit and test each element and wiring run for shorts. If the fault sits upstream in your home wiring, we'll say so and point you to a licensed electrician.
A dual-heat element that only fires on high usually has a failed simmer/infinite switch, so it can no longer regulate down. We test the switch under load and replace it along with any burnt wiring terminals, restoring full temperature control.
Impact from cookware, a dropped item, or thermal shock from a wet cloth on a hot ceramic surface. We assess whether the crack is cosmetic or has compromised the surface, and quote a glass top replacement where needed.
Error codes point to a specific fault logged by the control board — commonly a sensor reading, overheat protection, or a board communication fault. We read the exact code against manufacturer diagnostics for your brand and model, then repair or replace the specific sensor or board involved.
Knobs wear out from daily use — internal D-shaft splines round off, or the valve behind a gas knob becomes stiff. We supply and fit genuine or compatible replacement knobs, and service the valve behind it if stiffness is the underlying issue.
A blue flame is correct; yellow or orange usually means incomplete combustion from a dirty burner or incorrect air/gas mixture. We clean and re-set the burner and air shutter to restore a proper blue flame and confirm safe combustion before we leave.
Ignition failure, burner ticking, gas valve faults, rusted burner caps, uneven flame and knob repairs — finished with a combustion safety check.
The heating elements not getting hot, one zone stuck on high, tripping the switchboards, cracked ceramic glass and digital display having faults.
