It's Two Appliances Sharing One Body
A SMEG stove or cooker isn't just an oven with some burners on top. Underneath the one fascia sits a cooktop and an oven that often share the same ignition system, the same control board, or the same power and gas connections. When something goes wrong, the fault doesn't always sit where the symptom shows up.
We see this a lot — a burner that won't light gets blamed on a dirty jet, when the real cause is upstream in the ignition module that also feeds the oven. Or the oven stops heating while the cooktop still works fine, which tells us the fault is isolated rather than shared. Reading that correctly the first time is what keeps a stove repair to one visit instead of two.
Freestanding units add another wrinkle. Because they sit on their own legs rather than being bolted into cabinetry, things like burner alignment and door level can shift if the stove's been pulled out and pushed back during a clean or a floor job. Worth checking even when it's not the reason you called.
